Before God can walk you into the promise, He has to walk you through the process.
From Exodus 13:17-Exodus 14, it wasn’t about killing the Egyptians, God could have done it back in Egypt if so. But He was leading the Israelites to the Red Sea because He knew the moment they faced battle, they would turn around and quit. Aren’t we thankful for the grace of God? The moment it got hard, He knew we would quit and want to go back. Because sometimes we are more comfortable in captivity than living in the uncertainty of freedom. And God knew we would change our minds. So sometimes He has to take us the hard/long way/route.
